It's quite likely that AppCleaner has done a very incomplete job of removing Little Flocker. You need an uninstaller from the developer of the software, who knows exactly what was installed and what should be removed. Such apps rely on guesswork to figure out what to remove, and they very often get it wrong. If it isn't, reply to this with an EtreCheck so we can try to find out what's up.įor the record, Apple did not run Little Flocker "off the face of the Earth." The developer of Little Flocker sold it to F-Secure.Īlso, never use apps like AppCleaner to remove software. If you've done all this, your mac will not only be cleaner as well as probably your console error log but also, the problem should be gone now. That works with most stuff, but obviously not all of them, so it's a great start, but not all the work, and also only works with full apps, not single files. If you want to delete apps and all their referencing files, I recommend AppCleaner, which searches through the entire system to find files with similar names. Also, if you want to be thorough, do a finder search for any name you deleted to find other hidden files associated with it. If you find anything you don't remember to have installed, remember to have uninstalled or seems suspicious, RESEARCH THEM FIRST, and if they're 3rd party AND unnecessary, delete them. Settings/xxx.plist files in /Library/, /System/Library/, ~/Library/ AND the path mentioned above - /users/shared/ - are the best points to start out. Of course, as bugtracking goes, I can't know for sure until it happens again that it did not help, but I restarted Skype several times, which used to trigger it every time, without it happening again, so I'm very convinced that this was the problem.įor anyone encountering this problem, or many similar ones: I advise you to look through your finder for 3rd party plugins you don't need. I had gotten rid of it because I'm careful and aware enough and it got annoying really quickly also it's discontinued by now since its developer got hired by Apple a few months ago which seems to swipe people's proofs of existence, running projects and history kinda off the face of the earth.ĭeleting that leftover folder with ~15 files of the suffix "flock" got rid of the problem. Through bug-tracking I pinned it down to the folder created, but not deleted by Little Flocker an app which you could use to get warnings if any process wants to make changes to your file system (the same way like what Little Snitch does as a network firewall for any internet connection attempts by any process). They lived by their own cult by now (), untouched by any process in months, years for some so I decided to delete every folder that did not have a name of an app or plugin I still use. I am usually very careful with those and deinstall them both through their own process and AppCleaner, which usually got rid of the rest, but I did find some lone survivors in /users/shared/. Through a smart tip-off by the Apple Support Communities I searched my mac's file system for 3rd party plugin leftovers. I suspected Skype to be the problem since it was reproducable by restarting the app (which was not possible with any other app), but it also happened without doing anything within Skype, unrelated to anything happening within Skype and unrelated to Skype being the active app or not.Īfter months of frustration, some console-digging and research I found that very few have this problem - but there are others. Some days I got them many times a day, some days one, and then nothing for weeks, but it survived updates of both macOS and Skype. For some months now, I randomly got error-pop-ups telling me that some file could not be opened the path was a series of random characters over several lines.
